Montaña de La Altura has taxed the nerves of more than a few drivers
Montaña de la Altura de Paso Alto is a mountain peak at an elevation of 229m (751ft) above the sea level, located in the island of Tenerife, in Spain’s Canary Islands.

If you're afraid of heights, it's probably best to keep your eyes forward. The winding tiny road to the summit is an old military road. During World War II a submarine base was built but it was never used.
There are a few military ruins along the way. The road is 2.4 km (1.49 mile) long. It’s paved (first 1.3km) and unpaved (last 1.1km to the top). Be careful: this road is not for the sissies. One mistake can have consequences. A 4x4 vehicle is required to reach the summit.
The summit hosts a few communication facilities. Along the way you’ll have to deal with some dangerous dropoffs. Starting from La Alegria neighborhood, the elevation gain is 193 meters. The average gradient is 8.04%.
