Set high in the northeastern part of Turkey, within the Mehmetçik Hatıra Ormanı national forest, the road to the summit is entirely paved. It’s called D955. The road is wide, in pretty good condition, mostly straight, but features steep sections.
How long is Cankurtaran Geçidi?
The road is 59 km (36 miles) long, running north-south from Ardahan (the seat of Ardahan Province) to Göle. While the pass generally remains open throughout the year, temporary closures are frequent during winter due to hazardous weather conditions.
