Chandragiri Hill, one of the Nepal’s most loved day-trip destinations
Chandragiri Hill is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.553m (8,375ft) above the sea level, located in Kathmandu District in Bagmati Pradesh of Nepal. It´s one of the most iconic and touristic places on Katmandu valley.
Located on the south-west side of Kathmandu Valley, the winding road to the summit is unpaved, with some paved meters near its end. 4x4 vehicle required. It's a very demanding drive after rains.The road to the summit is very steep. Starting from Chandragiri, the ascent is 8.8 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1106 meters. The average gradient is 12.56%. The summit can be also reached from Matatirtha city. The drive is 11,8km of long and the average gradient is 9,57%.
The summit hosts a few temples, parks, restaurants and towers. It’s said to be one of the Nepal’s most loved day-trip destinations. The area is very crowded on weekends. The summit can be reached by a cable car. The summit offers fantastic views of the Himalayan range, from Annapurna to Everest.
