Conquering Abra Yanama in Peru
Abra Yanama is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.654m (15,269ft) above the sea level, located in the Cusco Region in Peru.
The road to the summit, located within the Area de Conservacion Regional Choquequirao, is totally unpaved. The pass road is 39.8 km (24.73 miles) long, running east-west from Colcapampa to Yanama.
Remember this is a mountainous area, climbing up a high mountain, with a notorius absence of oxygen. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor. Expect a trail pretty steep with more than 50 hairpin turns. The road is not easy, though. Up, down, right, left all the time.
