Santa Rosa Mine
Mina Santa Rosa is an open-pit mine at an elevation of 5.133m (16,840ft) above the sea level, located in the Puno Region, Puno Province, in the south of the Acora District, in Peru. It’s one of the highest mountain roads of the country.
The road to the summit is a mine trail climbing up to Mina Santa Rosa, a gold and silver mine. The road is gravel. Located in the Andes Mountains of Peru, the climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. Most people feel altitude sickness at around 2,500-2,800 meters. Near the summit, oxygen is in short supply. Expect harsh weather, extreme solar radiation and very high winds all together mixed with low temperatures. It’s one of the world’s 10 highest mines.
