Laguna Puywanqucha
Laguna Puywanqucha is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 4.685m (15,370ft) above the sea level, located in the Andes of Peru, in the Lauricocha Province, Cauri District.
The road to the lake is gravel. 4x4 recommended. The road is narrow (impassable for 2 cars at the same time) and pretty steep. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. Most people feel altitude sickness at around 2,500-2,800 meters. Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice.
