Is the road to Lake Junin unpaved?

Located in the west-central part of the country, it’s said to be one of the highest lakes in the world. The road to the lake, also known as Lake Chinchaycocha, is completely unpaved and runs along the western shore of the lake. The road is generally in good condition, and a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. However, after rains, the road’s condition can worsen, becoming more challenging and difficult, making a 4x4 vehicle necessary.

Located within the Reserva Nacional de Junín, the road is 57.8 km (35.91 miles) long, running north-south from Vicco to Junín. A bridge crossing the lake, called Puente Upamayo, is considered one of the scariest bridges in the world.
