Abra Huamanripa
Abra Huamanripa is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.879m (16,007ft) above the sea level, located in the Departamento de Ancash, Peru.
The road to the summit, also known as Abra Yanashalla, is awesome. It’s the highest point on the fantastic Pachacoto – Huayllanca road. This road is usually open all year, but it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. It has a well-deserved reputation for being dangerous because of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards, and driving under these conditions, can be extremely challenging. The road is gravel. After rain and snow some sections might need a 4x4 vehicle. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime and can sometimes block some sections of the road, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice. Conditions can change quickly and be harsh. Road closures can be frequent, so check conditions before traveling to this area.
