Road 1NC
Carretera 1NC is a spectacular road located in the Andes of Peru. The road unfolds for over 47 km, almost entirely over 4.500 meters above the sea level. The highest point of the road is Abra Antajirca, at 4.780m (15,682ft) above the sea level.
The road links Huayllay District in the province of Pasco and the Pacaraos District, in the the province of Huaral. The road is extreme, very narrow and in many places bordered by a drop of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) unprotected by guardrails. There are often traffic jams due to heavy trucks.
Due its unique location and the climb in elevation over thousands of feet, and passing through remote areas, it is important when driving in these conditions to be prepared. After rain, even a single rainfall, conditions of the road can be challenging. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime and can sometimes block some sections of the road, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice.
