A stunning coastal road from Caldera to Huasco
Located in the Atacama Region of northern Chile, the road from Caldera to Huasco is one of the most amazing coastal drives in the country.
The road is totally unpaved. It’s 184km (114 miles) long running north-south from Caldera, a port city in the Copiapó Province to Huasco in the Huasco Province.
Due its unique location and passing through remote areas, it is important when driving in these conditions to be prepared. The track can get very badly affected by floods. This is a maintained road where a high clearance 2WD vehicle is able to travel safely. The climate is mostly warm and extremely dry, because of its location on the Atacama desert's coast. But the temperatures are moderated by the cooling sea currents.
