Ruta Nacional 25
The Ruta Nacional 25 (RN25) is an amazing and exciting journey in the Andes mountain range, in the center of Bolivia.
This is a high mountain road running entirely over 2.500 meters. It links the cities of Cochabamba, known as The city of eternal spring or The garden city, at an elevation of 2.560m above the sea level, and Unduavi, in La Paz Department, at 3.327m above the sea level. The route is special because it interfaces the Andes and Amazon. The drive is 460km long, but expect 20 hours driving to complete the journey.
The road is gravel, with some narrow sections and river crossing. Its many twists, turns and narrows can pose a challenge to even the most experienced drivers. The road is not easy, though. Up, down, right, left all the time. Driving at night, or in poor visibility, is not recommended for drivers unfamiliar with the road. Parts of the road are often washed out after rains. Landslides are common. Expect thousands of hairpin turns. Some sections keep traffic almost zero. This route is not recommended if your passengers are prone to car sickness. Don’t stuff your belly too much. Eventually, you might feel vomiting temptations.
