Desierto de Siloli
Desierto de Siloli is a high mountain desert located in the department of Potosi of southwestern Bolivia. It’s said to be the Place Where Earth Meets The Sky.
Most of the desert lies at an altitude of about 4500 meters above sea level. Located in the Andes, the desert is covered with volcanoes on ridges and has many types of isolated rocks. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. Most people feel altitude sickness at around 2,500-2,800 meters. Danger can arise mainly from the high altitude and inability to get quickly to the lower location from some places. The road within the desert is sandy and gravel. It follows a serie of rocks producted of strong winds that presents the region. The most beautiful of these is Arbol de Piedra - Stone Tree. It’s a unique volcanic rock formation because it resembles a tree. The western horizon is dominated by beautiful colored volcano completing another of the local surrealistic sceneries. You can take a short walk along the rocks and try on some climb.
