The road through the pass is 12 kilometers (7.45 miles) long, running from south to north between Ciénega, also known as Ciénega de Paicone, a small town in the Santa Catalina Department (Jujuy Province) of Argentina, and Río Mojón, a town in the Potosí Department (Sud Lípez Province) of Bolivia. The road to the pass is completely unpaved but in good condition.
