Where is Lagunillas del Farallón?
The tiny town is located in the High Andes, in the extreme northwest of the country. In the center of town, there’s a sculpture honoring a 10-year-old boy named Guillermo Llampa, who tragically died in 1972 from exposure to extreme cold while walking to school.
How Long is the Road to Lagunillas del Farallón?
The road to the town is unpaved and known as Camino a Lagunillas de Farallón. Starting from the paved Ruta Nacional 40 (RN 40), the road is 46.4km (28.83 miles) long and is usually drivable with passenger vehicles. However, after rains, a high-clearance vehicle is required. Extreme caution is advised, as the area has a high risk of earthquakes.
