Located in the northwestern part of the country, near the border with Bolivia, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. Tucked away in the High Andes, it is an extreme route suited only for 4x4 vehicles. Drivers must navigate loose rocks, narrow sections, steep climbs, and sheer drop-offs.
How Long Is the Road to Cuesta del Farallón?
The road through the pass is about 17.7 km (11 miles) long, running from a small village known as Lagunillas del Farallón to Laguna Cerro Negro, a high mountain lagoon at an elevation of 4,492m (14,737 ft) above sea level.
