Cerro San Pedro
Cerro San Pedro is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.199m (7,214ft) above the sea level, located in the west of the province of Mendoza, Argentina, near the Chilean border.
The road to the summit is extreme. Only 4x4. If you dare to take the risk and travel along this dusty and bumpy route, then make sure to be driven by someone who has experience of the road. Don’t stuff your belly too much. Eventually, you might feel vomiting temptations while climbing circuitous roads at higher altitudes. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides.
The surface on this gravel road is often loose, especially along the sides of the road. The road has stones and big rocks in the middle and it’s bordered by a drop of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) unprotected by guardrails. Expect a terrible steep final climb, with sections up to 35%. Due its unique location and the climb in elevation over thousands of feet, and passing through remote areas, it is important when driving in these conditions to be prepared. Argentinian people call this road the ‘Climb to Hell’.
