Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego
Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego is a national park located in southwestern Tierra del Fuego province, over the borderline with Chile. The pass is reached by the Ruta Nacional 3 at the southern tip of the South American continent.
Tierra del Fuego, the Land of Fire, is usually accessed from the Argentine side of the island. It is located 12 kilometres west of Ushuaia along the gravel National Route 3. This National Park is the southernmost example of the Andean – Patagonian forest. The road is gravel. The speed limit is 40km/h, and leaving Route 3 and the few supplementary roads in the park is strictly prohibited. The park has dramatic scenery, with waterfalls, forests, mountains and glaciers. The road to the park starts in Ushuaia, commonly regarded as the southernmost city in the world. Pay attention to the wind. It is hugely unpredictable, gusting up to 130kms/hour from any direction, making driving extremely difficult! A road sign with a map of Tierra del Fuego indicates—with little pomp—that the traveler has reached the end of the road, here in Argentina’s 24th district. The pavement, beginning in one of the world’s largest cities, now ends here, so abruptly, that one truly feels they have reached the end of the earth.
