El Aguilar is a small town and a mine located at an elevation of 4,895m (16,060ft) above sea level, in the Jujuy Province of Argentina. It’s one of the highest towns accessible by car on Earth.

Set high in the northern part of Argentina, near the border with Bolivia, the town’s economy mainly depends on a nearby mine. The town has 3,655 inhabitants.
How long is the road to El Aguilar?
The road to the town is totally unpaved. It’s known as EXRN40 (or Ex Ruta Nacional 40). Starting from Tres Cruces, the road is 45.4 km (28.21 miles) long. At this altitude, it ranks as one of the highest roads in Argentina.
