A memorable road trip to Abra Antofalla
Abra Antofalla is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.005m (16,420ft) above the sea level, located in Antofagasta de la Sierra, the northernmost department of Catamarca Province in Argentina. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
The road to the summit is totally unpaved and very sandy. A 4x4 vehicle is required. The road is really remote. Never drive here alone. Starting at Antofalla, the road to the summit is 74.9 km (46.54 miles) long. It’s a pretty steep climb hitting a 10% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
