Tucked away in the western central part of the country, the road to the abandoned hotel is totally unpaved. It’s called Provincial Route 220 (RP220). The road comprises rocks and loose gravel, rubble, narrow wooden bridges, mud, streams and rivers of brown water.

Built in December of 1938 by Compañía de Hoteles Sud Sudamericanos Ltda, the luxury hotel was abandoned around 1953 after an avalanche. The hotel main feature was a thermal spring swimming pools constantly feed with Sulphur waters coming from the Overo volcano nearby which keeps it full and warm. The swimming pool can still be used. Locals say the hotel was supposedly a nazi hideout.

Set high in the Sosneado valley at the foot of Andes mountain range, to drive the road without stopping will take most people between 2 and 3 hours. This road is usually impassable in winter months. Keep in mind there are no shops, inns, or service stations along the entire route. Have a full fuel tank and carry enough water and food for the journey.
