June Lake Loop
June Lake Loop (California State Route 158) is a very scenic drive in Mono County, in the east central portion of the U.S. state of California passing four alpine lakes, towering mountains and incredible alpine scenery.
It is a loop west off of U.S. Route 395 running entirely over 2.100m above the sea level. Its highest elevation is at 2.378m (7,801ft). The road is totally paved. It’s closed in winters. It suffers the harsh meteorological conditions of the area every winter. The construction of the road began in 1915.
This 25.42km (15.8 miles) stretch of two-lane scenic highway offers stunning views of the Eastern Sierra. The landscapes here are beautiful and picturesque. It follows the shores of Grant Lake, Silver Lake, Gull Lake and June Lake.
