Forest Road 196
Forest Road 196 is a high mountain road located in Duchesne County, Utah, United States. It runs entirely over 3.000m above the sea level.
Located in the Ashley National Forest, the road is gravel, rocky and treacherous in parts. It’s 20.76km (12.9 miles) long. 4wd vehicle recommended. Only travel on this road when it is dry. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor at any time of year.
The road is impassable from October to June. Its highest elevation is at 3.196m (10,485ft) above the sea level. It suffers the harsh meteorological conditions of the area every winter. Even in summer you can confront with snowy days. Temperatures here in the winter are brutally cold.
