Forest Road 220
Forest Road 220 is a high mountain road located in Blaine County, Idaho, in USA, running entirely over 2.300 meters above the sea level.
Located in the Boulder Mountains, in the northwest corner of Blaine County, within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area of the Sawtooth National Forest, the road is gravel. Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. It’s 3.6 miles (5.7km) long with 7 hairpin turns. 4x4 vehicle required.
The winding and steep road is usually impassable in winters. It ends at Galena Summit at 2.652m (8,701ft) above the sea level. Starting from Forest Road 215 (Salmor River Road), the average gradient is 6%, with some sections up to 16%. Altitude and extreme weather are always a factor at any time of year.
