Piney Lake
Piney Lake is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 2.864m (9,396ft) above the sea level, located in Eagle County, Colorado, in USA. It is one of the highest lakes in the state that you can drive to. The road is a bit rough.
Nestled at the foot of the majestic Gore Range, the road to the summit is unpaved. It’s called Piney River Road. Most two-wheel drive should be able to handle the drive just fine. Its remote high-altitude location can bring many variations in weather. Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. Road closures can be frequent. It is a favorite destination for anglers, hikers, horseback riders, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The road is open seasonally, from June through September/October. The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views of the Gore Range. Altitude and extreme weather is always a factor at any time of year. Moose are often spotted near the lake. Other wildlife commonly seen in the area includes elk, deer, osprey, and eagles.
