Bertha Peak

Located in the San Bernardino Mountains, the road to the summit is gravel and rough. It’s called 2N09C.  It is subject to winter snowfalls with such a high summit altitude, and it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. At the summit is a communications station. You’ll find 360 degree views of the San Bernardino Mountains and panoramic views of Big Bear Lake.

Nestled in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, the road to the summit is steep and rocky. Make sure you get your vehicle and yourself well-prepared before driving this road. 4wd vehicle required. Expect a trail pretty steep. After rain, even a single rainfall, conditions of the road can be challenging. Watch out for sudden loose-gravel breaks. Proper preparation is essential to having a safe, enjoyable trip on this road. The peak was named after Waterton resident Bertha Ekelund in 1914.
