The Wild Road to Black Mountain in California
Black Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.184m (7,165ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary between Plumas and Lassen counties, in the U.S. state of California.
Set high in the Diamond Mountains, in the northeastern portion of California, the road to the rough summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 26N80. The road is usually open from Memorial Day weekend through October (weather permitting). High clearance vehicles are recommended.
Starting at Milford, the road to the summit is 15.28km (9.5 miles) long. At the summit there’s a lookout tower built in 1935 and some radio towers. The summit offers striking views of Honey Lake to the north, and Last Chance Creek to the south.
