Shafer Butte
Shafer Butte is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.315m (7.595ft) above the sea level, located in Boise County, Southwest Idaho, in USA.
The road to the summit, located within the Boise National Forest, is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. It’s called NF-374 (Shafer Butte Road). The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. 4x4 vehicle recommended.
Stay away if you're scared of heights. Expect a trail pretty steep. Thunderstorm activity can quickly change unpaved roads to four-wheel-drive condition or make them impassable. Its many twists, turns and narrows can pose a challenge to even the most experienced drivers. The road is not easy, though. Up, down, right, left all the time. The summit is adorned with communication equipment and an old fire lookout built in 1958. The lookout is now used in emergencies.
