The trail is located 26 miles east of La Pine, in the central part of Oregon, south of Newberry Crater, within the Deschutes National Forest.

The trail is 22.53km (14 miles) long. It features unpaved and rocky sections with numerous steep, rocky climbs. Large, sharp rocks require tight maneuvering, increasing the likelihood of tire damage. A complex network of poorly defined roads makes route-finding very difficult, even when following a GPS tracklog.
