The Wild Road to Terrible Mountain
Terrible Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.662m (12,014ft) above the sea level, located in Gunnison County, in the U.S. state of Colorado. It’s one of the highest mountain roads of Colorado.
Located in the western part of Sawatch Range of Rocky Mountains, within the Gunnison National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Terrible Mountain Road. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. It is not generally snow-free until late June or even July in some years. It’s a rough narrow road with drop-offs. Vehicular traffic is not recommended. Proceed at own risk. 4WD high clearance vehicles recommended.
