Ultimate 4wd destination: Big Lookout Mountain in OR

Big Lookout Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.172m (7,125ft) above the sea level, located in Baker County, in the U.S. state of Oregon.

The road to the summit is totally unpaved taking you through the hills and valleys of Baker County. It’s called Lookout Mountain Road. The road is open only from May until the late fall snows get deep (October or November). 4x4 vehicle required. At the summit there’s a fire lookout tower built in 1963 and various telecommunications equipment. Starting from Weatherby, the road to the summit is 20.08km (12.47 miles). Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1.437 meters. The average gradient is 7.15%.
