The peak is located in the central part of Colorado, south of Eagle, within the White River National Forest.

Is Hardscrabble Mountain Unpaved?

The road to the summit is completely unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 413 (Hardscrabble Mountain Road). A 4x4 vehicle is required. The road is steep, hitting a 10% gradient through some of the ramps.

How Long is the Road to Hardscrabble Mountain?

The road is 33.31 km (20.7 miles) long, running north-south from Brush Creek Road to Gypsum Creek Road.

Is Hardscrabble Mountain Open in Winter?

The drive offers beautiful views of the Sawatch and Gore Mountain Ranges. Access to the summit is largely limited to the summer season.
