A memorable road trip to Monument Hill
Monument Hill is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.253m (10,672ft) above the sea level, located in La Plata County, in the U.S. state of Colorado.
The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called County Road 204. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. It is not generally snow-free until late June or even July in some years. 4x4 vehicle required. Starting at Durango, the road to the summit is 29.29km (18.2 miles). The drive is pretty steep: over this distance the elevation gain is 1.248 meters.
