The intimidating road to Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.364m (11,036ft) above the sea level, located in Madera County, at the geographic center of the U.S. state of California. It’s one of the highest mountain roads of California.

Mammoth Mountain

Located along the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the Inyo National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. 4x4 only. It’s located in the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. At the summit there’s a café bar called Eleven53. It’s said to be the highest cafe in California. The trail is open in the months when snow skiing is not available. It is mostly used to provide access to maintain ski lifts and lodges. The last part of the climb is very intimidating.
