The pass is located in the east-central portion of California, within the Inyo National Forest.

How long is the road to Sheep Mountain in California?

The road to the summit is mostly unpaved and runs entirely at 3,000m above sea level. It’s called White Mountain Road. This trail is not for the faint hearted – it is steep, and there are spots where a slip or fall could cause serious injury. The road is 28.3 miles (45.5km) long. 

Is the road to Sheep Mountain in California open in winter?

Set high in the White Mountains, the road is generally open from mid-May through the end of November. Winters are extremely severe, with the peak receiving upwards of 13 feet (400 cm) of snow annually.
