A narrow unpaved road to Devil Mountain

Devil Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.026m (9,927ft) above the sea level, located in Archuleta County, in the U.S. state of Colorado.

Located in the heart of San Juan National Forest, the road to the summit is unpaved and very narrow. It’s called Forest Road 626 (Devil Mountain Road). Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. 4x4 vehicle required. At the summit is a fire lookout tower.

The summit offers great views of the south San Juans to the east. The road to the summit is pretty steep softened by forgiving, middle-ring grades and rewarding vistas. Starting from the paved US-160, the ascent is 18.82km (11.7 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.031 meters. The average gradient is 5.47%.
