The peak is located near Piedra, between Pagosa Springs and Durango, in the southwestern part of Colorado.

The road to the summit is completely unpaved and very narrow. It’s called Forest Road 626 (Devil Mountain Road). It is a pretty steep drive, softened by forgiving, middle-ring grades and rewarding vistas.

Starting from the paved US-160, the ascent is 18.82 km (11.7 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1,031 meters. The average gradient is 5.47%.

Is the road to Devil Mountain in Colorado open in winter?

Set high in the San Juan National Forest, accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. A 4x4 vehicle is required. At the summit, there is a fire lookout tower with great views of the south San Juans to the east.
