Scott Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2,491m (8,172ft) above sea level, located in Boise County, in the U.S. state of Idaho.
Where is Scott Mountain?
The peak is located in the western part of Idaho. At the summit, there’s a historic lookout tower built in 1934. The tower is still occupied during the fire season and used for early detection of forest fires in the area.
Is the Road to Scott Mountain Unpaved?
The road to the summit is entirely unpaved. Known as Forest Road 555BC, it is rough and steep, especially near the beginning. A 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended for this journey. The route offers great views along the way.
How Long is the Road to Scott Mountain?
Starting from Forest Road 555, the drive to the summit is 6.92km (4.3 miles) long, with an elevation gain of 191 meters. The average gradient is 2.76%. You can drive up to about 1/2 a mile from the lookout before reaching a gated area.
Is the Road to Scott Mountain Open in Winter?
Set high in the Boise National Forest, the road to the summit is usually impassable in winter due to snow and ice.
