Stein Mountain
Stein Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.608m (8,555ft) above the sea level, located in Lemhi County, in the U.S. state of Idaho.
The road to the summit, located within the Salmon-Challis National Forest Arapaho National Forest is gravel and rocky. It’s called Blacktail Road. It’s impassable in winters. It is a narrow, old trail and can be tricky to spot at times. 4x4 required. At the summit there’s a lookout tower built in 1958 which replaced a log cabin lookout built in 1917. Visitors should be prepared for high altitude conditions. Summertime temperatures average 70 degrees but can drop as low as 30 degrees at night or during the frequent summer afternoon thunderstorms. High winds frequently occur.
