Situated high in the Cascades mountain range, within the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Austin Pass is located in the northwestern corner of Washington.
Is the road to Austin Pass paved?
The road to the summit is fully paved and known as Mt. Baker Highway (SR 542). While the road is of high quality, it does feature steep sections and curves. The pass spans 4.18km (2.6 miles), running from Mt. Baker Ski Area - Heather Meadows Base Area to Mount Baker’s Artist Point (at 1,566m or 5,140 feet above sea level).
Is the road to Austin Pass in Washington open in winter?
Located near the Canadian border, the road typically opens in July and remains accessible until the first substantial snowfall of the year, usually occurring in late September or early October.
