A memorable road trip to Moon Pass
Moon Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.225m (10,580ft) above the sea level located in Saguache County, in the U.S. state of Colorado.
Set high in the Rio Grande National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called County Road M 33. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. It is not generally snow-free until late June or even July in some years. 4x4 vehicle recommended. The drive is mostly flat. Starting at County Road 41 G, the ascent is 17.86km (11.1 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 577 meters. The average gradient is 3.23%.
