A memorable road trip to Stillwater Pass

Stillwater Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.246m (10,649ft) above the sea level located in Grand County, in the U.S. state of Colorado. The pass divides the Never Summer Wilderness Area and the Arapaho National Forest.

Stillwater Pass

Set high in the Rocky Mountains, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called County Highway 4. This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow) and features steep sections. The road has some damage in parts and gets rocky in others. Near the top this definitely demands clearance and solid offroad capability due to large rocks.

The pass road is 37.33km (23.2 miles) long, running west-south from CO-125 to US-34. The road is suitable for high clearance, 2-wheel-drive vehicles when dry.
