The road to the summit, located within the Gunnison National Forest, is a gravel 4wd track. Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice. The road is a bit rocky and muddy in places. The pass is named for a local prospector, Mr. Brown, who had mine claims in the area.
