Lookout Mountain
Lookout Mountain is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.683m (5,522ft) above the sea level, located in Okanogan County, Washington, United States. At the summit there’s a fire lookout.
The road to the summit is gravel. With such a high summit altitude the road can be closed anytime due to snowfalls. The zone is prone to heavy mist and can be dangerous in low visibility conditions. The road ends about 1.5 miles from the summit trail and the tire tracks all the way prove you can do it and that people have. But about 3 miles from the top the road narrows and the steep drop on one side gives you very little room for making a mistake or for getting turned around. The drive is definitely worth it. There are many excellent photo opportunities. Don't forget your camera with lots of film/memory and fully charged batteries! The views from Lookout Mountain are pretty damn incredible – 360 every direction and fabulous views of the oddly shaped Hoodoo Peak and the North Cascades. The cabin atop the fire lookout structure is locked and inaccessible to the public.
