Where is Willow Creek Summit?

The pass is located in the central part of Idaho, within the Challis National Forest (Salmon-Challis National Forest).

Is Willow Creek Summit paved?

The road through the pass is called U.S. Route 93. It’s fully paved. It features two wide lanes with paved shoulders and additional uphill climbing lanes designed for heavy commercial traffic. It maintains continuous uphill gradients between 5% and 6% on both sides of the climb.

How long is Willow Creek Summit?

The road is 82km (51 miles) long, running north-south from Challis (the largest city in Custer County) to Mackay.

Is Willow Creek Summit open in winters?

Set high in the Salmon River Mountains, the pass remains open year-round, but this section is heavily exposed to high-altitude winds. Primary hazards include black ice, drifting snow blown across the asphalt, and frequent chain or 4WD requirements during winter storms.
