Scenic Loop Drive
Scenic Loop Drive is an amazing drive in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, in North Dakota, USA.
The road is asphalted. It’s 36 mile long. Portions of road may be closed in winter due to snow and ice. If you hit the road at dusk, be prepared to get caught in a buffalo traffic jam, as the huge creatures sometimes block the road and aren't in any hurry to move. Don't get out of your car or honk at them—they don't like it.
The drive is definitely worth it. There are many excellent photo opportunities here. Don’t forget your camera! The road has pullouts and interpretive signs that explain some of the park's historical and natural features. Wildlife is abundant along the route that weaves through much of the South Unit. Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit through the park is 25 mph. Please drive with caution, as our park road is used by vehicles large and small, bicyclists, pedestrians, and park wildlife.
