Travelling through the historic Deadman Summit
Deadman Summit is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.453m (8,047ft) above the sea level, located in Mono County, in the east central portion of the U.S. state of California.
Tucked away in the Sierra Nevada range in eastern California, the road to the summit is totally paved. It’s called U.S. Highway 395. The pass was named for the decapitated body of a murder victim found in the vicinity around 1868.
The road can be accessed year round but may be closed for short periods in winter when the weather is bad. The pass is 9.97km (6.2 miles) long, running from the village of June Lake Junction to Crestview.
