Little Truckee Summit, a 5 stars road in the Sierra Nevada
Little Truckee Summit is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.954m (6,411ft) above the sea level, located in Sierra County, in the U.S. state of California.
Set high in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, within the Tahoe National Forest, the scenic road to the summit is paved. It’s called California State Route 89. Access to the pass is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure in winters due to dangerous weather conditions. Traffic is usually not much of an issue.
The pass road is 37.17km (23.1 miles) long, running north-south from Sierraville (in Sierra County) to Truckee (in Nevada County). The drive features steep sections, hitting an 8.0% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
