Where is Baker Lake?

The lake is located on the boundary between north-central Skagit and Whatcom counties, in the northern part of Washington state, at the northern edge of the Skagit River Valley.

When was Baker Lake created?

The lake was created by the construction of the Upper Baker Dam on the Baker River. The dam, built in 1959, is used for hydroelectric power generation and flood control. Tucked away in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, the road to the lake is called Baker Lake Road (FS Road 11).

Running along the western shore of the lake, the road is 41.8 km (26 miles) long, starting from State Route 20 (North Cascades Highway) to the west of Concrete. It’s mostly paved: 20 miles of the road are paved and the last 6 miles are gravel.
