Why is it called Steptoe Butte?

The peak, formerly known as Pyramid Peak, is named after Colonel Edward Steptoe. It was historically used as a wagon road and once housed a hotel site and even an observatory.

The road to the summit is fully paved (not in best condition). But it’s very narrow and without guardrails, winding up to the top and leading to a parking area at the summit.
