Driving the wild Fisherman Road to Lake Owyhee in OR
Fisherman Road is a gravel wild road located in Malheur County, in the U.S. state of Oregon, leading to Indian Creek Campground, on the southern shores of Lake Owyhee.
Set high on the eastern edge of Oregon, the road is totally unpaved and rocky. A 4x4 vehicle with high clearance is required. The road is open year-round and very narrow, so drive slowly. No internet or phone service anywhere close.
The road is very scenic and picturesque. It’s 18.99km (11.8 miles) long, running east-west from Succor Creek Road to Indian Creek Campground, on Lake Owyhee. It’s very steep, hitting an 18% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. It tops out at 1.406m (4,612ft) above the sea level.
