Is the road to Blue Lake unpaved?
The road to the lake is totally unpaved and features challenging conditions. It’s called NF-6639 and is a rough mountain road, passable only by full-size 4WD vehicles.
How long is the road to Blue Lake?
The road is 6.75km (4.2 miles) long, starting from Independence, on Main Boulder Road. Along the way, it’s possible to explore a few abandoned mines. Extreme care is required.
Is the road to Blue Lake open in winter?
Set high in the Absaroka Range, the road tops out at 2,962m (9,717ft) above sea level. It’s usually impassable in winter.
